This type of account may use only one dial up line at a time.
You can have software installed on several machines, so that it is
easy to connect from either work or home, but only one machine should be connected at any time.
You may use your account as much as you like. There is no time limit or hourly charge.
However, we do require that you close the connection when you are not using it to transfer data.
You may run server software (like talkd or fingerd) while using your connection for other purposes,
but do not keep the connection up just to run a server.
We use mostly Motorola modems; They are reliable and connect well with most other modem brands.
They do not, unfortunately, support vfc. Connections from vfc modems will be limited to speeds up to 14.4.
PPP (point to point protocol) is currently the standard protocol for dial-up connections to the Internet. It is supported on
almost every type of computer. Our hardware supports PPP with PAP (password authentication protocol), so complicated
login scripts are hardly ever needed.
Your account comes with one mailbox for e-mail. The mailbox is limited to 3 megabytes of storage, so you should check your
mail regularly. Your e-mail address will have the form username@prado.com.
Your account comes with a home directory on our server. The home directory is limited to 10 megabytes of storage. You may
access your home directory using an FTP program. We do only infrequent backups of the home directory, so you should keep
backup copies of your files.
One part of your home directory can be accessed by our World Wide Web server. You can create web pages on your own
system, using any editor you like, and then place them in that part of your home directory. Once your pages have
been placed on the server, Web surfers everywhere can view them. Your home page can be viewed by pointing a web
browser at http://www.prado.com/~username.
User support is available in many ways. For casual questions you can use e-mail. If the problem is more urgent telephone
support is available 24 hours a day. We offer seminars in our office which help new users learn about Internet concepts, using
Internet software, and writing your own web page. We are building User Support Web Pages.
